TTU PREPARES FINAL YEAR STUDENTS FOR NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

Takoradi Technical University, through its Directorate of Quality Assurance and Directorate of Human Resources, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme, NSS, has organised a pre-service on-campus orientation for all final-year students at the University.

The orientation, conducted in two sections, aimed to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the National Service Scheme- what it entails, and its overall purpose as they prepare to venture into it.

Ing. Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, Director of the Directorate of Quality Assurance, while stating the purpose of the gathering advised students to be productive and serve as ambassadors of TTU during their national service period.

“I urge all of you to exhibit the technical knowledge you’ve gained here at TTU in your respective fields of work. Demonstrate good and exemplary character—be punctual, be regular, and when you’re at work, give it your best. Respect your supervisors, colleagues, and everyone who comes to the office. I want you to remember that you are representatives of TTU; your attitude reflects the University’s vision and ideals. As we say in our anthem, ‘our hallmark is quality and excellence’—that is what we expect you to embody,” he advised.

The Western Regional Director of the National Service Scheme NSS, Daniel Dawuso, guided students through all aspects of the NSS, including its objectives, modules, exemption and deferment policies, payment procedures, offenses under Act 426, welfare of National Service Personnel, NSP, target groups, coverage policies, among others.

The Director encouraged them to select Western Region as their first choice during registration and assured them that he would assist with reposting for those who are not placed in the Western Region but still wish to undertake their service here.

Mr. Dawuso also emphasized that the military training for all NSS is mandatory and will take effect this year’s August for all 2025/2026 service year to instil discipline in them.

He also took the opportunity to advise students to dress properly and decently during their service period, stating that it could play a key role in their chances of being retained by certain institutions.

The Director for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal NSS Office, Rev. Ebenezer Eyim-Danquah, also cautioned students against paying money to anyone on social media in an attempt to secure placement in a preferred organization or to request reposting, warning that it is a risky and potentially fraudulent practice.

Western Regional NSS MlS Director, Ebenezer Assafuah, oriented the students on the Registration process of the National Service Scheme.
