Master of Technology, PhD and professional postgraduate programmes at TTU.

Takoradi Technical University's School of Graduate Studies (SGS) offers postgraduate programmes leading to Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Our graduate programmes are designed to deepen technical expertise, build research capacity and develop industry-ready professionals for the Ghanaian and global workforce.

All graduate programmes are accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and operate under the auspices of the School of Graduate Studies, headed by the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Graduate Programmes Offered

Master of Technology (M.Tech)

2 years full-time / 3 years part-time

The M.Tech is TTU's flagship postgraduate degree, combining advanced coursework with applied research. Students submit a thesis or project dissertation as a requirement for graduation.

Entry: Entry: First-class or Second-class (Upper) Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional qualification plus experience.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

3–5 years full-time / 4–7 years part-time

TTU's PhD programme is research-intensive, culminating in a substantial original contribution to knowledge. Candidates work under the supervision of TTU faculty and collaborate with industry and external research partners.

Entry: Entry: M.Tech or equivalent Master's degree with research component in a relevant field. Research proposal required at application.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip)

1 year full-time

Postgraduate Diploma programmes provide advanced specialist training at postgraduate level without the full research component. These are popular with working professionals seeking to upgrade their qualifications.

Entry: Entry: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or HND with substantial relevant work experience (minimum 5 years).

Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert)

6 months – 1 year

Short postgraduate certificate programmes targeted at professionals who need to upskill rapidly in a specific area. Certificates can be stacked towards a PGDip or M.Tech.

Entry: Entry: Bachelor's degree or HND with relevant professional experience. Some programmes accept non-graduates with extensive industry experience.

Prepare Documents

Academic transcripts, degree certificate, research proposal (PhD only), two reference letters, CV/resume.

Purchase Voucher

Buy an admission voucher from any authorised bank or via the online portal. Cost: GHS 350 (local) / USD 50 (international).

Complete Form

Visit the application portal, create an account, select your programme and complete all sections of the online form.

Submit & Track

Submit your completed application and track its status through your portal dashboard. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews.

Detailed Entry Requirements

M.Tech Entry

First or Second Class (Upper) Bachelor's degree
Relevant field of study to chosen programme
GCPA of 3.0 or equivalent (some programmes)
Two academic reference letters
Statement of purpose / personal statement
Professional references (for experienced candidates)

PhD Entry

M.Tech, M.Sc or equivalent Master's degree
Research experience in relevant field
Detailed research proposal (8–15 pages)
Two academic reference letters from supervisors
Publications or conference papers (preferred)
Interview with potential supervisor required

International Students

Equivalent qualifications from recognised institution
Certified copies of all academic documents
English Language proficiency (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent)
Valid student visa / residence permit
Health insurance documentation
