TTU WELCOMES PICKLEBALL SPORTS

Takoradi Technical University through its Sports office has embraced Pickleball, a new sporting discipline, as the latest addition to its numerous rich sporting culture as a University community.

President of the Ghana Pickleball Association, Apostle Dr. Kwabena Dantey Akufo said the sport is the fastest developing sport in the United States of America and has already been introduced to twelve other African countries.

He indicated that the sport would become an Olympic sport by 2026 and added that plans are far advanced to train coaches for the sport in the coming weeks at the University of Ghana.

Welcoming the delegation from the Ghana Pickleball Association, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah underscored the important role of sports in the development of education. He expressed the hope that pickleball will revive sporting competition on the campus of TTU in the coming years.

Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah however thanked the Ghana Pickleball Association delegation for donating a set of pickleball equipment to the University and further called for a deepened collaboration between TTU and the Ghana Pickleball Association.

He said this will help to occupy the youth with responsible activities.

“To counter the social vices in the system, sports is the way to go”, he noted.

A demonstration match of pickleball was played between representatives of the Ghana Pickleball Association and Takoradi Technical University.
