TTU STUDENT TOPS NATIONAL CTVET TVET EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has recorded a remarkable national achievement as one of its students, Miss Ann Afua Afriyie Appiah, has been honoured at the Ghana TVET Excellence Awards organised by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in collaboration with a delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana.

The prestigious event, held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, 14th April, 2026, brought together Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities, key stakeholders in technical and vocational education, and industry partners to celebrate excellence, innovation, and outstanding contributions within the TVET sector. The awards also sought to promote skills development, strengthen international cooperation, and highlight best practices aligned with global standards.

Miss Ann Afua Afriyie Appiah, a second-year student of Welding and Fabrication at TTU, was adjudged the Overall Best Female Student in a Male-Dominated Field. She was recognised for her outstanding academic performance, technical competence, and dedication to practical skills development in her field.

Her achievement reflects the growing impact of TTU in empowering young women to excel in technical disciplines traditionally dominated by men. She continues to demonstrate discipline, innovation, and excellence, serving as an inspiration to fellow students within the university and beyond.

In her remarks, she expressed gratitude and highlighted the importance of encouraging women in technical fields. “Understanding how girls are moving into engineering and the impact goes far beyond the classroom. What we do and contribute can help shape possibilities for women in technical careers. Excellence and discipline in our studies and practical training show what is possible for women in innovation and technical development”, said Miss Afriyie Appiah.

The Pro Vice Chancellor of TTU, Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, who represented the Vice Chancellor, delivered remarks on behalf of the university, stating that, “Takoradi Technical University is proud of the remarkable achievement of Miss Ann Afua Afriyle Appiah. Her success reflects our commitment to practical training, innovation, and the empowerment of women in technical education. TTU will continue to provide the enabling environment for students to excel and compete at the highest level.”

This national recognition further highlights TTU’s commitment to producing competent, industry-ready graduates who are contributing meaningfully to national development.

The TTU community celebrates Miss Appiah’s success and encourages all students to pursue excellence with determination and confidence.

Present at the ceremony were senior representatives from participating institutions. The Director-General of CTVET, Mr. Zakaria Sulemana, was also present.
