ASANTEHENE TO MAKE HISTORIC VISIT TO TTU, WESTERN REGION

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to make a historic visit to Takoradi Technical University (TTU), marking the first time a reigning Asantehene will officially visit any tertiary institution in the Western Region of Ghana.

The landmark visit is as a symbolic national moment that deepens the longstanding historical, cultural, and economic connections between Asanteman and the Western Region, ties that have evolved over centuries through trade, migration, education, and shared development trajectories.

The visit also coincides with TTU’s remarkable academic achievement of being ranked number one in the latest AD Scientific Index for the third consecutive time, reinforcing its position as a leading centre for research, innovation, and applied sciences education in Ghana.

The planned visit follows a courtesy call on the Asantehene on Friday April 24, 2026 , by the 2026 Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (FAAT) Week Planning Committee delegation by Prof. Frederick Boakye-Yiadom, during which TTU formally extended an invitation to the Asantehene.

FAAT Week, scheduled from 12 to 30 July 2026, is designed to celebrate innovation, creativity, and academic excellence while highlighting individuals and institutions contributing to national transformation. This year’s edition places special emphasis on the intersection of tradition and academia, with the Asantehene’s participation expected to elevate the event into a landmark national celebration.

The FAAT Week Planning Committee used the opportunity to show Otumfuo and his elders some of the souvenirs designed with King’s images.

The Western Region and Asanteman share a deep and layered historical relationship that dates back to pre-colonial and colonial eras. In modern Ghana, these historical linkages have evolved into partnerships in education, industry, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development, making the Asantehene’s visit to TTU both symbolic and historically resonant.

The anticipated visit is expected to go beyond ceremony, serving as a powerful endorsement of the enduring historical relationship between Asanteman and the Western Region, while positioning Takoradi Technical University as a national symbol of academic excellence, innovation, and cultural connectivity.

Everything that I learned at TTU really helped put me above the competition in the field of mechanical engineering.
