TTU PARTNERS GENSER ENERGY IN OIL, GAS TRAINING

The Oil and Natural Gas Engineering Department and Faculty of Marine and Nautical Studies of Takoradi Technical University, TTU, in partnership with Genser Energy Limited, has held an educational seminar for staff and students on Marine Oil and Gas Terminals, dubbed “Introduction to Oil and Gas Terminal Operations”.

The seminar aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the operations within Marine Oil and Gas Terminals. It was also to bridge the gap between academia and industry through practical, hands-on expert-led training.

The Naval Reliability Superintendent at Genser Energy, Carlos Estaban Laya Marquez, giving the essence of the seminar said the initiative demonstrates Genser Energy’s unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation of engineers, technicians, and industry professionals, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

The Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, speaking at the opening of the seminar expressed appreciation to Carlos Laya Marquez and Genser Energy Ghana Limited for their impactful collaboration with the University, enriching the practical knowledge and skills of the students and staff.  He took the opportunity to advise the students.

 “this is a golden opportunity for you to learn from a seasoned professional in the field. Take full advantage of this seminar, engage actively, ask questions, and absorb as much knowledge as you can. The future of the oil and gas sector in Ghana will depend on the skills, dedication, and innovation of bright minds like yours.”, he advised.

The Head of the Oil and Gas Department of TTU, Ing. Dr. Joseph Sekyi-Ansah, noted that the terminal serves as a crucial intersection between technology and the education students receive.

“Our department strives to equip our students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic oil and gas industry. This marine terminal serves as a living testament to the importance of that training. The engineering expertise, logistical complexity, and safety measures employed here represent the kinds of challenges our students will confront and overcome in their future careers”, he said.

Carlos Laya Marquez also delivered a detailed lecture on Marine Oil and Gas Operations, covering key topics such as Introduction to Marine Terminals/Oil and Gas, Vessel and Terminal Infrastructure, Operations and Safety, Workforce/Roles and Responsibilities, and the Future of Marine Terminal Operations.

Attendees gained insight into the role of these terminals in the broader oil and gas supply chain, as well as the infrastructure, equipment, and safety protocols involved.

The seminar, participated by 20 TTU Students, ended with a visit to Genser Energy’s Takoradi Natural Gas Export Terminal (TNET) Project site.
