Dean's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies (FAMTELS) at Takoradi Technical University. Our faculty stands at the intersection of technology, media, and liberal arts, preparing students to tackle contemporary challenges through innovative thinking and multidisciplinary approaches.

We are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, fostering an environment where creativity meets technical expertise to drive societal transformation.

ABOUT THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies (FAMTELS) at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) plays a pivotal role in addressing the ever-changing needs in the communication industry and the ever-present social developmental challenges bedeviling Ghana and Africa through research, teaching and outreach within Ghana and beyond.

FAMTELS is made up of varied disciplines with a focus to engender multidisciplinary collaboration and innovation in addressing regional and global challenges in support of the University's vision, "to become a world class technical university recognised for excellence, innovation and societal relevance".

The Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies is also responsible for the handling of liberal programmes such as Law, African Studies, Communication Skills, French, Entrepreneurship and Economics which are studied as core subjects across the University.

Vision

To be a leading academic hub that fosters multidisciplinary technology-driven innovation, sustainability and social transformation in Africa and beyond.

Mission

To deliver world-class problem solving education, research and innovation that engenders societal transformation.

Objectives

The objectives of FAMTELS will be:

  1. To promote multidisciplinary research and education that advances societal development.
  2. To foster innovation and entrepreneurship, enabling students to develop sustainable solutions to societal challenges.
  3. To create a platform for knowledge exchange on oil and gas, African Studies, Communication and technological advancements.
  4. To foster international partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in research and scholarship, addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in oil and gas, African Studies, Entrepreneurship, Communication and technological advancements.
  5. To promote faculty and students research and development through grantsmanships.
  6. To forge partnerships with civil society organisations, players in the health industry, in the communication industry, entrepreneurs, engineering entities such the extractive industry (as oil and gas, mining). Others include: civil, building, the manufacturing industries and the media industry to offer internships and hands-on training opportunities for students.

SCOPE AND STRUCTURE

The Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies (FAMTELS) has two departments and one Centre, each contributing to the overarching mission of delivering world-class problem solving education, research and innovation that engenders societal transformation.

The scope and structure of the FAMTELS reflect its commitment to foster international partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in research and scholarship, addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in oil and gas, African Studies, Entrepreneurship, Communication and technological advancements. The FAMTELS is under the stewardship of a Dean of professorial status and supported by a Vice Dean.

Department of Media and Digital Technology

This Department combines theoretical and practical skills in media production, digital journalism and multimedia technologies, providing students with the tools to create impactful media content and adapt to the digital revolution.

Department of Communication Technology

This Department focuses on the intersection of communication, language and technology, exploring how emerging digital tools can enhance human communication and language studies.

Centre for Liberal Studies (CELIBS)

This Centre merges social development theories with technological innovations to address issues like poverty, health disparities and education through the use of tech-driven solutions. The Centre, additionally, focuses on equipping students with entrepreneurial and research skills to drive the development of sustainable businesses that address societal challenges. It is, more so, dedicated to exploring legal frameworks in technology, intellectual property and social justice within the TVET framework to train students in legal technology, governance and regulation.
