Takoradi Technical University, TTU, through its Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with RainCoat Roofing Systems Ltd to strengthen academia–industry collaboration and enhance practical training for students.
The MoU seeks to equip students with hands-on experience and make them market-ready through structured industrial engagement.

Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Gladys Quartey, described the partnership as a significant step in bridging theory and practice. She noted that discussions had been ongoing for some time before the agreement was formalised.
“We are here with the very top notch of RainCoat Roofing Systems and for some time we have been discussing how best to collaborate in bringing up our students and making them market ready. They began by investing in us with GH¢5,000 towards our Environmental Forum,” she said.

Prof. Quartey outlined key components of the MoU, including exchange of technical expertise and academic information, support for curriculum development with emphasis on practical training, internships for staff and students, joint research and symposia, National Service placements, recruitment opportunities for graduates, and a GH¢2,000 award for the best graduating HND and BTech Building Technology students.

Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun expressed appreciation for the partnership, reiterating that technical universities are mandated to align closely with industry through Competency-Based Training.
“On behalf of the University and the students, we thank you for your support. Technical universities must orient themselves to industry. Our delivery is competency-based and practical. At a point in their studies, students spend a full semester in industry to gain hands-on experience. This opportunity will further strengthen that approach,” he noted.

Chief Executive Officer of RainCoat Roofing Systems, Mr Charles Hutchful, assured the University of the company’s commitment.
“We will allow them to use our facilities for training. Whatever training you provide, we will back it with the industrial practical aspect, which helps the students greatly. We are here to do the same with your institution,” he said.

He acknowledged TTU’s large student population but expressed confidence in effective collaboration, adding, “We are grateful for the opportunity and believe we can do even better together.”
