TTU OPENS EYE CLINIC

The Takoradi Technical University Hospital has opened an Eye Clinic as a new subsidiary to provide specialized services for people with vision challenges. The Eye Clinic is expected to assist students and staff with eye-related issues right on the University campus in addition to the already numerous healthcare services provided by the hospital.

Speaking at the opening of the Eye Clinic, the Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, while expressing appreciation to the Director of Works and the Medical Director of the University Hospital for their role in establishing the eye clinic, emphasized the importance of having such a facility in TTU.

“the University is expanding, and considering the student population, we need to develop our medical centre to cater to the needs of our students. This eye centre is one of the additions, and as we move forward, we will add other facilities to better serve our students. The eye is very important, especially for first-year students. When they come to the University, some often have eye problems, and if detected early, medical professionals can advise them on the necessary steps to address the issues,” he said.

Medical Director of the TTU Hospital, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, said the establishment of the eye clinic is a fulfilled vision since it has long been the goal of the University management to expand the range of medical services provided to the University community.

He also emphasized their commitment to delivering effective and efficient services to students, staff, and the surrounding community.

“We pledge to provide patient-centred care to our community, ensuring that we take good care of the equipment and that our community benefits from these resources and the unit. Students, staff, and the general public can expect first-class eye services, as we have engaged an ophthalmologist to manage the eye unit,” he stressed.

He further highlighted some of the ready-to-use eye equipment available at the centre, including: the LED VA Chart, Ophthalmoscope-Retinoscope set, Slit Lamp Biomicroscope (with motorized table + accessories), Trial Lens set, Autorefractor-Keratometer (with motorized table + accessories), Magnifying Loupe, Conjunctiva & Epilation Forceps, and other miscellaneous items such as the eye model, trial frame, and pinhole occluder.

Everything that I learned at TTU really helped put me above the competition in the field of mechanical engineering.
