TTU COLLABORATE TO ESTABLISH TEXTILE, GARMENT SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION CENTRE

Takoradi Technical University, TTU, in collaboration with Framingham State University and the University of North Texas, is set to establish a Centre for Textile and Garment Sustainability Innovation.

The initiative aims to explore the entire lifecycle of garments in Ghana—from production and finishing to usage and post-usage disposal.

With textile and garment waste posing environmental threat, the centre will work to create a sustainable cycle that minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency.

The centre will focus on advocacy, training individuals and industry players in sustainable textile practices, recycling and up-cycling as well as garment production.

To assess the available resources and processes leading to the establishment of the Centre Prof. Jiyoung Kim, Associate Dean of the Department of Merchandising and Digital Retailing at the University of North Texas, and Prof. Haewon Ju, Department Chair of Fashion Design and Retailing at Framingham State University, embarked on a scoping visit to TTU.

They interacted with all stakeholders including the Pro Vice Chancellor of TTU, Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah and the Registrar, Dr. Moses McLean Abnory with the hope of soon signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the partnership.

The visitors and their host exchange gifts to cement the building blocks of the new relationship.

Everything that I learned at TTU really helped put me above the competition in the field of mechanical engineering.
