TTU BUSINESS SCHOOL EDUCATES TRADERS ON BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY PRINCIPLES

The Faculty of Business Studies of Takoradi Technical University in-line with its community impact goals has embarked on a community outreach campaign at the Kojokrom market where they educated traders on basic trade secrets to be profitable and ensure business sustainability. Staff and Students of the Faculty, who divided themselves into various groups, separately engaged market women on basic business principles.

Dean of the Faculty of Business School, Prof. Abigail Gura, who led the community outreach prorgramme said it is critical to its mandate as a Business School.

“We are mandated to do three things, thus, teach, research and offer community service. So, our presence here today is a direct community impact we want to give to a community in our vicinity. So, we are here educating them on basic financial principles, marketing principles and procurement issues that would enhance their businesses, because we are coming from the Business Faculty.,” she explained.

Prof. Gura who together with her staff and students collaborated with the TTU Admissions Office to also explain the many learning opportunities at TTU, further gave her expectations of the benefits to students who participated in the outreach programme.

“We are expecting that the things that we have taught our students in the classrooms, they should be able to come here and explain to the local women traders the practicality of how they can apply the things they have learnt in classroom. We are hoping that this will serve as a motivation for the traders to also bring their wards to TTU Business School, and specifically to the Faculty of Business School,” she added.

Head of TTU Admissions Office, Bernard Mayne, who together with his team led the distribution of admissions flyers to the traders during the outreach programme described it as an opportune platform to expose the traders to TTU’s offer of many learning opportunities for their relations and themselves.

“This is part of our corporate social responsibility programme where every year we reach out to the community to talk to them about the need to pursue further studies. Some here have wards in the house and they don’t even know how to get to the University. So, when we come out like this, we talk to them about our programmes, requirements and then how they can easily get to the university. Again, we have the free outreach admissions forms we give out to those interested applicants who would want to come to TTU for further studies.” he said.

The traders received the outreach team with praise, stating that their visit has been informative and resourceful to their business.

Everything that I learned at TTU really helped put me above the competition in the field of mechanical engineering.
