HR DIRECTORATE ORIENTS NEWLY APPOINTED ACADEMIC, ADMINISTRATIVE HEADS

One hundred and five (105) newly appointed Academic and Administrative Heads of the Takoradi Technical University have benefited from a three-day orientation to prepare them for their new portfolios.

They were taken through how to align their roles to the core values, mission and vision of the University during the orientation.

Head of TTU’s Human Resource Directorate, Joseph Eshun, who gave a presentation on Communication Channels and Processes, also emphasised directorate’s rationale for organising the orientation.

“The position of a Head of Department is incredibly important to any university. This is because many new department heads are faculty members who have little leadership or management experience, therefore some orientation training is warranted to help the new heads understand the operations of the university. A department head is such an important position and there are so many critical areas in which a new department head lacks experience, the necessity for training in these areas becomes apparent. This is why the training is tailored to support the specific policies, capabilities and priorities of that individual”, he explained.

The Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun expressed the hope that the training will adequately equip the new heads with the needed skills and tools that they will require as they take up their new roles

“This orientation programme which is very crucial in your new roles will seek to equip you and place serious emphasis on the significant use of Communication Channels and Processes, Academic and Administrative leadership, Performance Appraisal amongst others which will be very central to the success of your new positions as you journey with Takoradi Technical University’.

He urged the heads to always work as a team since their work is interconnected which will require collaboration to achieve harmonious learning environment for both staff and students.

While assuring the new heads of management’s support to them, Rev. Prof. Eshun further advised them to bring out strategies for promoting research, professional development and implement innovative teaching practices that take care of different learning styles.

The Registrar, Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory on his part gave a presentation on Academic and Administrative Leadership, Performance Appraisal.

The Pro VC, Prof Victor B.K. Micah presented on Structure of the University, Policies and Procedures as well as the Director of Finance, Dr. Gabriel Sam Ahinful took them through Budget and Financial Management Regulations.
