The Faculty of Business Studies of Takoradi Technical University, FOBS, has held a workshop for lecturers and faculty members on the effective use of Artificial Intelligence, AI and educational tools to enhance teaching and learning.
The workshop, dubbed “AI and Educational Tools that Aid Teaching and Learning,” focused on introducing participants to various apps and educational platforms that can make their interactions with students more efficient and less stressful.

Speaking at the workshop, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Prof. Mrs. Abigail Gura, highlighted the significance of AI and educational tools, stating that the faculty, through these technologies, aims to be one of the best academic faculties in the University.
“We want to stay abreast of technology in teaching and learning, and as faculty members, we have to know what is in the technological world so that we can also impart it to our students. As the Dean, together with the management of the faculty, one of our visions is to ensure that the faculty remains one of the best academic faculties in the University,” she said.

While encouraging participants to make use of the knowledge acquired, she promised that more workshops would be organized to help faculty members stay updated on technology.
“Going forward, more of these seminars and workshops will be organized. So, this is to inform you that you should expect more of such sessions,” she emphasized.

Prof. Mrs. Gura also spoke about the faculty’s plans to organize its first international conference and encouraged lecturers to prepare their papers.
“We are putting things in place to organize the first international conference as a faculty. When the time is right, we will call for abstracts and papers, so start getting your papers together because it’s going to be in the latter part of the year,” she urged.

A Senior Lecturer at Hocre School University of Applied Sciences, Utrecht, Dr. Samuel Guane Ackah, gave a detailed presentation on educational tools such as the Socrative app, Microsoft Forms, and Google Forms, and how to use them effectively.

He further took participants through the benefits of these tools and how to use AI tools to make lesson preparation easier and identify students’ use of AI for their assignments.
Dr. Ackah encouraged the lecturers present to improve their teaching styles as technology has evolved and can make their tasks easier.

The Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah, who graced the workshop, lauded the Dean for organizing such workshops and urged the faculty to officially write to the University if they need softwares to make their work easier.

Participants had the opportunity to go through the educational tools step by step, asked questions, and gained further insights.
