Two thousand 678 students of Takoradi Technical University have successfully graduated with various qualifications at the 24th congregation of TTU after completing their programmes of study for the 2023/2024 academic year.
In his report at the 24th Congregation, the Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, noted that 25 out of the graduands were persons of various disabilities which marks a significant inclusive education milestone of the 70 years of the University.
“a total of twenty-five (25) students with disabilities, comprising twenty- four (24) hearing-impaired students and one (1) with physical disabilities, are graduating today. This brings the total number of deaf students graduated by the University to one hundred and eighty-nine (189) since the establishment of the Disability Support and Services Unit in 2017“, he said.
Giving the breakdown of the graduating batch, Rev. Prof. Eshun said the 24th congregation is awarding Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, and Diploma of Technology to deserving graduands who successfully completed their programmes of study in the 2023/2024 Academic Year, with 74 receiving First Class at the Bachelor of Technology level and 132 also receiving First Class at the HND level.
“In the 2023/2024 academic year, the University successfully graduated 2,678 students. Of these, 695 will be awarded Bachelor of Technology degrees, and 1,983 will receive Higher National Diplomas…579 individuals will be awarded Diploma of Technology certificates and 129 will receive Competency Based Training certificates”, he said.
While highlighting the University’s achievements, the Vice Chancellor said TTU has increased its faculties and looks forward to introducing PhD programmes and BSc programmes.
“In our ongoing commitment to expanding academic opportunities, the University has established three new faculties: the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime and Nautical Studies, and the Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies (formerly CELLIBS), bringing the total number of faculties to eight. The University currently offers a range of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (MTech) programmes, catering to the diverse needs of our students and industry. As part of our commitment to academic excellence and innovation, we are in the process of introducing PhD programmes in Business Analytics and Technology Management to expand our academic portfolio. Our long-term goal is to develop PhD programmes across all faculties, ensuring that we provide advanced research and learning opportunities that align with the evolving demands of both academia and industry.”, he noted.
He added that BSc. Event Management, BSc. Real Estate Management, B.Tech. Media and Communication Technology were all introduced in the year under review.
Rev. Prof. Eshun emphasized the University’s commitment to providing better education and nurturing students for the global community.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm the University’s commitment to delivering quality education, fostering robust industry partnerships, and equipping our graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields. We pledge to uphold our mission of academic excellence, research, innovation, and community engagement, ensuring that today’s graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to society and industry. Additionally, we remain dedicated to maintaining a supportive and conducive learning environment, continually striving to enhance the overall student experience,” he assured.
While congratulating the graduands, he encouraged them to make better use of their skills and project the values and vision of the University.
“I am confident that the quality of technical education you have received here has equipped you with the skills to generate your own jobs. Be exemplary envoys of Takoradi Technical University, embodying the spirit of our cherished motto: Adwen, Akoma Na Nsa Ma Mpuntu (Mind, Heart, and Hands for Development),” he urged.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ing. Dr. Robert Adjaye, a council member congratulated the students on their achievements and urged them to be good ambassadors of TTU.
“We congratulate you on completing your programme of study successfully and very pleased with your achievements. We expect you to give the University a reason to be proud of what you accomplish outside of the University when you step into the world, and we trust that you will not let the University down. We are confident that you will always preserve the University’s excellent reputation,” he urged.
Emphasizing the importance of their certificates, Ing. Dr. Adjaye encouraged the graduates to embody the spirit of humility as they enter the workforce.
“The degrees, diplomas, and certificates you are receiving today are priceless and powerful gifts. Please remember that no one can take them away from you unless there are legal grounds for doing so. I hope that you will make a difference in the world of work in Ghana, and remember that to whom much is given, much is required. You will be leaving these walls with a trained mind, but you will be entering a world of individuals who lack your education but possess other abilities and have contributed much to the growth of our country. Be humble and recognize that they are an essential part of this country,” he said.
Deserving graduating students were giving citation and cash prizes as their ward. They included Jeremy Okwesi, B. Tech. Procurement Logistics and Supply Chain Management-Overall Best Graduating B. Tech. student, Debora Fofo Adjei, HND in Tourism Management-Overall Best Graduating Diploma of Technology Student and Ebenezer Kwame Egyir, HND ICT-Overall Best Graduating Student with Disability.
The Chief Executive Officer of COA Research and Manufacturing Company Limited, Prof. Ato Duncan was also honoured with a citation at the 24th TTU Congregation for his immerse support to TTU, especially his adoption of the female Hall and scholarship schemes for vulnerable students.
