As part of its International Women’s Day celebration, Karpowership Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women in STEM by providing young female engineering students with essential career development skills.
This initiative aligns with the company’s broader mission to drive gender inclusion, skills development, and long-term career growth for women in the energy sector.
The event, themed “Accelerate Action,” underscored the urgent need to close gender gaps in STEM fields and equip women with the necessary skills to excel in the energy industry. Female beneficiaries of the Karpowership Ghana Scholarship participated in an intensive training session designed to prepare them for the job market and leadership roles.
The training covered key career-readiness skills such as CV writing and job interview mastery, helping participants position themselves for top job opportunities. Financial literacy was also a major focus, providing practical knowledge on managing personal and professional finances. Additionally, the session included lessons on harnessing social media and effective communication to equip the students with the skills needed to stand out as professionals and future industry leaders.
Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager of Karpowership Ghana, emphasized the importance of taking concrete steps toward gender inclusion in STEM:
“At Karpowership Ghana, we are not just funding education—we are equipping young women with the skills and opportunities they need to be employable. By doing so, we are helping to bridge the gender gap in the energy sector and contributing to the achievement of SDG 5 (Gender Equality).”
Prof. Victor Bondzie Micah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), commended Karpowership Ghana for its leadership in empowering young women in STEM.
“When we accelerate action for gender equality in STEM, we are securing the future of innovation. Karpowership Ghana’s initiative demonstrates what meaningful industry-academic partnerships should look like—mentorship, financial support, and skill-building opportunities that truly empower women.”
The training featured experienced professionals, including Dorcas Baaba Bonney, HR Manager; Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager; and Ruby Tingbani Ntiri, Financial Controller of Karpowership Ghana. They shared valuable insights with the participants, encouraging them to apply their knowledge, stand out, and make a lasting impact in the industry.
Raphaelina Arthur, a third-year Electrical Engineering student, shared how the initiative has transformed her career outlook. She expressed her gratitude, saying the training has been an eye-opener, giving her the confidence and skills to compete in the job market. She emphasized that Karpowership Ghana is not just funding education but actively preparing young women to lead and succeed, adding that this is the kind of action needed to drive real change.
Beyond this initiative, Karpowership Ghana has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Bank to create broader opportunities for women in the energy sector. This further reinforces its commitment to achieving SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
As the world marks International Women’s Day, Karpowership Ghana calls on industry leaders, policymakers, and educators to take bold steps to ensure that women are not only included in STEM fields but are fully equipped to lead and innovate.
