The Vice-Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, in his report at the 26th Congregation, congratulated the graduands for choosing TTU to pursue their tertiary education and wished them well in their working lives as they contribute to societal development.
Rev. Prof. Eshun, who sponsored the Overall Best Physically Challenged Graduate Award, emphasised that Takoradi Technical University considers inclusive education as part of its mandate and is therefore committed to ensuring that all identifiable groups in society receive fair support to pursue higher education.

“Takoradi Technical University has remained deeply committed to supporting students with disabilities. In 2018, the University established a dedicated unit solely responsible for providing tailored support services to students with disabilities. This unit not only enhances their academic experience but also supports their personal growth and overall well-being, both on campus and beyond. The University has also instituted scholarships and flexible learning options for students with disabilities through the generous support of the GNPC Foundation, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), COA, and the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Programme. These interventions have significantly eased the financial burden on many students and ensured that disability does not hinder access to quality education,” he said.
He further highlighted how other TTU partnerships have contributed to supporting persons with disabilities.

“The University, in partnership with Ghana Gas, has equipped a dedicated reading room for students with disabilities. The facility is furnished with assistive technologies and devices to facilitate effective learning. As part of our commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment, the University continues to build the capacity of staff to interact effectively with persons with disabilities. To this end, TTU has introduced sign language training for staff and students, and an increasing number of our personnel can now communicate with hearing-impaired students, who form the greater part of the disability population. The total number of students with disabilities who have passed through the University is 167. This reflects the University’s strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity,” he added.

The Vice-Chancellor also stated that the University has provided scholarships for 36 staff members to pursue further studies. He expressed appreciation to institutions such as Karpowership, Access Bank, Stanbic Bank, the Petroleum Commission, GNPC, and other partners for supporting TTU through scholarships for students, as well as infrastructure and equipment support, which have contributed significantly to the University’s progress.
He further attributed the University’s recent number-one ranking among technical universities to its commitment to research and innovation.

“As a University, we remain committed to advancing applied research and translating innovation into practical solutions that address societal needs. In line with this mandate, we have strengthened strategic research collaborations locally and internationally, leading to increased research grants and enhanced staff engagement in research and knowledge creation. These efforts have significantly improved the visibility of Takoradi Technical University. It is therefore with great pride that I announce that TTU has been ranked Ghana’s Number One Technical University in the AD Scientific Index University and Scientist Rankings, a recognition that affirms our commitment to research excellence, innovation, and academic distinction,” he explained.

In an address read on behalf of the Western Regional Minister by the MCE of Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality, Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurgu, he commended Takoradi Technical University for the critical role it is playing in developing Ghana’s technical manpower.

“Takoradi Technical University occupies a strategic and indispensable position in Ghana’s educational architecture. As a technical university, TTU stands at the heart of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which remains one of the most practical and sustainable pathways for national development. TVET equips learners with hands-on skills, applied knowledge, and entrepreneurial competencies that directly respond to the needs of industry, commerce, and the wider labour market. Globally, nations that have achieved rapid industrialisation and inclusive growth have done so on the back of strong technical and vocational education systems. Ghana is no exception. Our development agenda—whether in manufacturing, construction, energy, agriculture, ICT, oil and gas, or creative industries—depends largely on a skilled, innovative, and adaptable workforce. Technical universities such as TTU are therefore not peripheral institutions; they are central to Ghana’s transformation agenda,” he said.

In all, 30 special and faculty awards were presented to best-performing graduates, with sponsorship from the Ghana Institute of Surveyors, TTU Alumni, Stanbic Bank, Zenith Bank, Karpowership, the MP for Effia, and the MCE for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.
