Describing Convocation as an important statutory platform for accountability, the sharing of ideas and constructive feedback, the Vice Chancellor commended members for their dedication and commitment, which have contributed to the steady growth and positive image of the University.

He expressed appreciation to staff for the dedication, professionalism and hard work demonstrated during the 2024 to 2025 Academic Year. He noted that their commitment, often under challenging circumstances, has contributed significantly to the steady progress and positive image of Takoradi Technical University, and he looked forward to continued collaboration in the year ahead.

Reflecting on measures taken to increase student enrolment to 21,000, the Vice Chancellor urged lecturers to maintain professionalism, fairness and firmness in their interactions with students in order to support their academic success.

He explained that student satisfaction is a critical measure of the institution’s effectiveness and is directly influenced by the conduct of staff. He emphasised that daily interactions with students significantly shape their academic experience and their perception of the University. He therefore encouraged staff to be deliberate and consistent in how they engage, communicate and deliver services. Lecturers are expected to uphold high standards through effective teaching, fairness, timely feedback and meaningful mentorship, while administrative and support staff must demonstrate efficiency, professionalism and a strong service oriented attitude. He stressed that student satisfaction is achieved through consistency, respect and support within a disciplined academic environment.

On measures to improve operations within the University, Rev. Prof. Eshun indicated that TTU has introduced new technologies to enhance both administrative and academic work. He advised staff to be prompt and punctual, noting that management will utilise the recently installed biometric clocking system to monitor attendance and punctuality.

He further indicated that internet connectivity across campus has been significantly improved to enhance efficiency, while construction of the road to the Akatekyi Campus is ongoing.

The Vice Chancellor also reminded Convocation members of adjustments to the academic calendar and the responsibilities associated with them. He encouraged staff to take their career development seriously but advised them to verify the accreditation status of institutions with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission before enrolling in PhD programmes.

The Registrar of TTU, Dr Moses Maclean Abnory, briefed members on the University’s statutory, academic, governance and institutional ceremonies as approved by the Academic Board. These include matriculation, congregation, investiture, honorary degree ceremonies, inaugural lectures and Convocation events. He further advised members to strictly adhere to the approved dress code for all official University functions.

The Pro Vice Chancellor of TTU, Ing. Prof. Ebenezer Boakye, also took members through the University’s promotions and appointments structure.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session during which Convocation members made contributions and sought clarification on issues raised in the Vice Chancellor’s address and the other presentations.
