The Department of Graphic Design is one of the seven Academic Departments of the School of Applied Arts. It provides skill and knowledge based programmes which develop students for employment in technical and artistic industries. It is the most popular and populous department in the School of Applied Arts.

Vision

To turn out higher and middle level manpower to provide excellent art education to support industries and human resources development in the Western Region and Ghana as a whole.

 Mission

To provide tertiary education in the field of manufacturing through the application of arts and to encourage teaching and research in Graphics.

 Goals

In line with its vision to become a centre of excellence by providing quality education based on enquiry into creative art, it has the following goals:

  • To contribute to Ghana’s quest to building human capacity by providing competency-based technological education at tertiary levels.
  • To provide other related programmes through research and consultancy to enhance productivity in the manufacturing industry. 

Objective

The Department of Graphic Design, which is pivotal in the re-invention of School of Applied Arts has the following as its objectives:

  • To provide specialized skills to graduates to meet contemporary manpower needs at managerial, entrepreneurial and supervisory levels in Graphics Industry.
  • To prepare students for employment in Art Industries in line with current national poverty alleviation through job creation.
  • To encourage skills in the development of local materials and resources in promoting small and medium scale industries.

 Programmes Offered in the Department

The B-Tech. programme has four options which include: 

  • Multimedia and Photography;
  • Advertising and Packaging;
  • Animation and Illustration;  and
  • Pre-press and Printing Technology

 Future Plans

  • To organize orientation programmes in second cycle institutions within Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis in order to whip up interest in students offering Art to enroll in Takoradi Polytechnic.
  • To promote the Department by exhibiting some works of the students and staffs.
  • To offer certificate and diploma programmes in Graphic Design and Printing.

Staff Position

 

The department has experience and highly qualified staff at both academic and administrative sections. Currently Department has a Twenty one (21) teaching staff and Fourteen (14) non teaching staff.
