Mechanical Engineering (Plant & Prod.)

PLANT & PRODUCTION OPTION

Mr. Charles Bentum Vroom

HOD - Mr. Charles Bentum Vroom

Overview

Mechanical Engineering is the study of the principles and application of material science, energy and mechanics for the design, manufacture, analysis, maintenance and control of machines and devices. The Mechanical Engineer requires the knowledge and understanding of the thermal environment and forces in order to design a product, its parts and/or subsystems for functionality, aesthetics and the ability to withstand the forces and the thermal environment that they will encounter; and to determine the best way to manufacture and operate them without failure. In addition, a Mechanical Engineer needs to know how to work with people, ideas, data and economics. Mechanical Engineers are found in manufacturing, food processing, aerospace, biotechnology, nuclear, mining, energy, and petroleum industries.

About Us

The Mechanical Engineering (Plant & Production) Department has the right environment for apt training of Mechanical Engineers. Our products are found in most companies in and out of the country. The success stories of our products in these companies attest to the quality of our training, discipline and capacity. The department is resourced and positioned to respond adequately and swiftly to the changing demand of the professional working environment.

The Department is manned by devoted practical oriented competent academic staff with diverse specialties in Mechanical Engineering. The Department has a close relationship with industries in the Western Region and beyond which enables our students to have easy access to undergo industrial trips and attachment.

The Department has well equipped Amatrol laboratories and a functioning workshop, which give effective understanding to our students as they are able to relate the practical with the theory. A well stocked state of the art library of the Polytechnic is available to our students.

Vision

The vision of the Mechanical Engineering ( Plant & Production) Department is to achieve excellence in hands-on manpower training and action research in Mechanical Engineering in order to provide support to industry and commerce in the areas of design, manufacture, maintenance and controls.

Aim

The aim of the Mechanical Engineering ( Plant & Production)Department is to provide top-notch practical and theoretical training in Mechanical Engineering that would adequately equip graduates to meet the demands of the ever changing global industrial environment.

Objectives

At the end of the programme, graduates would be able to:

  • Apply their skill and knowledge acquired to solve Mechanical Engineering challenges, design and manufacture machines and devices,
  • Install, operate, maintain and service plant/machinery, tools and equipment,
