TTU ESTABLISHES RESEARCH FUND TO AID SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION

Takoradi Technical University has established a Research, Innovation and Development Fund to promote quality research that could help spur the socio-economic development of the country. The Fund is meant to aid researchers in linking up with industry to develop applications based upon industrial needs in order to improve products, services and processes. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, disclosed this when the Faculty of Applied Arts launched its Research Development and Resource project at the University Auditorium.

Rev. Prof. Eshun indicated that the GH¢ 1.5 million Fund is intended to provide opportunity for skills development, applied research and publication of research findings: “The establishment of the Fund will also assist TTU researchers in developing innovative, interdisciplinary programmes that will have strong potential for turning out highly qualified human resource for industry”. He was confident that the Resource Centre would support the University’s mission of building staff and students’ capacities in various aspects of the research enterprise in order to stimulate intellectual pursuits. The Vice Chancellor was also confident that the Centre would expose beneficiaries to research opportunities aligned with contemporary pedagogy”

The Dean of the Faculty, Mr. Kofi Asante Kyei, indicated in his welcome address that the Centre would mobilize resources – books, journals, and periodicals – and help staff to form research groups, produce annual research reports of the Faculty, among other services.
